INSPIRING JOURNEY TO CANCER WELLNESS IS TOPIC OF NEW BOOK PENNED BY KANSAS CITY AREA HOMEBUILDER
"Still Bigger Than Pink: Alive and Thriving" is Lori Lober's Legacy to Others Touched by Cancer"
KANSAS CITY - At the age of 36, Lori Lober was given a death sentence. Cancer was her judge, her jury and with the prognosis of just 18 months to live - her executioner. Nine years later, Lober has no evidence of disease and is sharing her story in a new book titled, Still Bigger Than Pink: Alive and Thriving.
After discovering she had stage four breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver, Lober fought back.
"I refused to give in and give up," Lober states emphatically. "I had a young son, a loving marriage and a successful homebuilding business - many beautiful reasons to live."
So once she received her terminal diagnosis, Lober got busy living- not dying.
Lober and her husband, John, own and operate Provence Homes in the Kansas City northland, building European-inspired homes for the past 12 years. Well respected in both the community and the real estate business, Lober has always been considered determined and unflappable.
"I made big changes in my life," said Lober. "I got smart on nutrition, on the power of positive thinking, reflexology, massage and all kinds of holistic therapies. I explored both Eastern and Western medicines to give my body the very best chance at survival. I embraced wellness, rather than sickness. Before too long, my body started responding and healing."
Combined with the more traditional cancer therapies of surgery, chemotherapy and oral medications, Lober is certain that she is alive and thriving today because all of these courses of action worked in harmony to restore her health.
Lober made a promise to herself all those years ago: If she lived, she
would give back in an effort to help others struggling with this disease. And her new book is just one of the ways she is doing so.
She also founded the Touched by Cancer Foundation (TBCF), with headquarters in North Kansas City, Missouri. At the TBCF Wellness Center, cancer patients are offered similar healing therapies that Lober herself underwent during her own cancer journey, such as reflexology, massage, nutrition classes and more.
Others on the national cancer stage have also taken notice of Lober's restored health and her passion to help others. In 2003, she was honored by Self Magazine, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Yoplait as one of the 25 Champions Across America making a difference in the fight against breast cancer. She was also honored in 2004 as an Outstanding Missourian by the Missouri House of Representatives. Since 2006, she has served as a "Her Story" Ambassador for Genentech.
"This book touches your heart and soul," explains Dr. Tony O'Donnell, nationally known ND, public speaker and longtime Lober friend. "Out of her pain and suffering comes this beautiful light that shines on us all. This book is a must read for all women in America."

Author Spotlight
Lori Lober - Missouri
Lori Lober
If you ask Lori Lober whether or not she's a writer, she'll tell you very simply that she’s a cancer patient who wanted to share her story and give hope to others who will one day hear the words, ‘You have cancer.’ Lober was a stage four breast cancer patient and was told she only had 12-18 months to live. Seven years later there was no evidence of the disease in her body.
So many people asked Lober about her battle with cancer and how she conquered the disease that she found herself telling her story on a regular basis. Eventually, her friends and family suggested that she write her story down. “I thought about it and came to the conclusion that if only one person was helped by my story then it was worth the time,” explains Lober. From their suggestion evolved her book, Bigger Than Pink: The Book I Could Not Find When I Was Diagnosed With Stage Four Cancer, which includes Lober’s personal journey combining both Eastern and Western medicine and precautions you can take to decrease your likelihood of being diagnosed with cancer. Currently she’s working on an updated version that will include up-to-date information which she also plans to publish through AuthorHouse.
“AuthorHouse streamlined the process and made it feel less complicated,” states Lober. “That was important to me because they handled so many of the details that were intimidating as a first-time author. They took the fear and intimidation out of the process.”

Why do I write?
I didn't plan to be an author . . . I was convinced by those who love me that I had a story to be told that could inspire others to have hope in spite of a dire health condition.
What inspires you to write?
I'm not a professional author . . . I am a cancer survivor who is trying to give back in exchange for the positive outcome I have received in my cancer journey.
What has it meant to me to publish my work?
Feeling that first book in my hands was a gift I cannot explain . . . telling my story has been extremely fulfilling. (And probably therapeutic!) The feedback I have received from newly diagnosed cancer patients since the publication of "Bigger Than Pink" has made the entire process worth it. I am filled with gratitude toward AuthorHouse for helping me make my dream of publishing my story a reality. Together I am confident we are providing hope to those who hear the dreaded words "you have cancer." No matter what stage there is hope! What a gift!
